Ed Fennema
CEO and Founder of De Volgende Verdieping BV, SkillThing BV, BeWise@Work BV and Gropper’s Games BV, Chairman of the ‘National Congress for Serious gaming – Serious simulation’
Since he started working for Tulip Computers in 1996, Ed Fennema has been a genuine e-learning entrepreneur, committed to the enhancement of human job performance through the use of digital means.
His latest concept is JobPlay, a range of real time interactive training methods, aimed to support large organizations looking to improve specific job performance of its individual employees as well as team performance of its multidisciplinary departments.
Before SkillThing, Ed founded De Volgende Verdieping BV (since 2004), an e-learning company with a innovative approach to online interactive learning (OIL), offering a comprehensive line of methods of instruction, simulation and serious gaming.
Born and raised in the city of Rotterdam, Fennema’s professional roots lie within the field of teaching economics between 1984 and 1996. In 1996 Fennema started as trainer and developer for Tulip Computers. Soon he demonstrated himself by being a talented thinker with regard to Computer Based Product Training solutions.
Following Tulip, Fennema joined SkillSoft PLC (Nasdaq: SKIL) in a national and international commercial position for more than three years. During this period he got the opportunity to mature himself in the commercial part of this business.
In 2001 Fennema became Managing Director of DENKK BV for a period of 3 years. During this period, Fennema created a range of online learning methods.
Fennema’s career is characterized by a passion for didactics. Companies like KLM, Microsoft, Rabobank, Philips, Wessanen, The Dutch Police Academy, Vopak and DHL have all appreciated his state-of-the-art approach to learning and improving human performance. At the same time he has been a devoted sportsman for all his life. Fennema is Dutch and was born in Amsterdam, 1962.
